Autoclub Speedway (formerly the California Speedway) is host to
ChumpCar World Series endurance racing. The entry rules
specify that there is a limit of $500 maximum that can be spent on the race car (besides safety equipment).
The next ChumpCar race at
Auto Club Speedway (Fontana, CA) is:
15-16 October 2011
"The L.A. Freeway Enduro" in the same Double-7 format as last year.
ChumpCar is a crapcan racing series similar to 24 Hours of LeMons
but instead of concentrating on penalty box hysterics, ChumpCar concentrates on racing. ChumpCar was formed because the
popularity of LeMons forced them to turn away hundreds of drivers. For example, LeMons turned away 20 teams (100 drivers)
from their last race of 2010 at Buttonwillow.
ChumpCar World Series also runs similar endurance races at
Buttonwillow, Auto Club Speedway,
Willow Springs, and Ensenada, Mexico
- only 40 miles from San Diego. 24 Hours of LeMons has only 24 endurance races scheduled for 2011 whereas
ChumpCar World Series has 39 endurance races scheduled for 2011.
LeMons cars can easily qualify for entry in the ChumpCar series. With so many teams
turned away by LeMons this year, some of those Lemons teams might consider becoming Chumps in 2011.
Anyone can enter a ChumpCar race, anyone from a first time amateur to a professional driver so you never know who you will be racing against.
Tony Stewart races ChumpCar - he really does!
NASCAR star Tony Stewart decided he just had to be in a racecar Easter weekend of 2010 so he ran the ChumpCar 24 hour race
at the famed Virginia International Raceway.
Since ChumpCar requires each racecar to be worth no more than 500 bucks, Tony had to sideline his Stewart-Haas Racing Office
Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala SS and run what The Dead Milkmen would call a "Bitchin' Camaro."
The Stewart-Haas Racing crew brought three cars to the event with Tony's #14 finishing 8th out of 29 competitors.
Two other NASCAR teams were at the event with Hendrick fielding a car and also Roush-Fenway Racing running a heap.
Nope, none of the pro teams won the event which means a bunch of ChumpCar teams got the honor of saying they kicked Tony's ass.
